Another important piece of advice is that you should only consider filing for if you are paying minimum amounts on your bills or if you are not able to budget yourself out of debt in a five year period of time. There are serious repercussions to filing for bankruptcy, namely that it will be reported on your credit for up to ten years. This means that you will be unlikely to get a loan or credit card, or anything else that requires you have good credit. Having poor credit can be one of the most detrimental things in one’s life so you really want to be sure that is your only way out before filing.
